Firstly, do you treat your team members with only kindness and respect?

Do you listen to your team members?

Do you ask your team members what extra training or education they need? Are the specific courses they’re interested in?

Do you take them out for a coffee, lunch or dinner one on one, where they can open up about any concerns they have in their business life or personal life? Regular team meetings are important, however one on one get togethers are essential.

Do you ask them if they are saving to go on a trip, or wanting a romantic weekend away, wanting to buy a new phone, laptop? The list goes on
Once you understand this, you can give them extra training, and work with them to achieve their goals. This is a win/win for both parties as they will be excited about promoting products for your clients to take home even more, as they have a WHY!
Yes, a lot of salon/clinics need more staff, but don’t forget to look after your current team! They are the best spokespeople for your business when looking to recruit new staff. How many times have you interviewed a candidate and then they’re a ‘no show’ on their trial day or 1st day of work? Make sure the vibe in your salon is happy by making sure your current team are happy. You may not be paying them as much as some salons, their hours may be less flexible than what other clinics are offering – but if they feel valued, listened to and respected, then they are much more likely to stay with you long-term. And everyone (clients and potential new staff) will pick up on your salon vibe when they step through your doors.
