You have decided to start advertising for your new team member! However, where do you start?
Like all decisions, whether buying a cake and ensuring the recipe works out or booking your next holiday – the MOST important thing to do is – DO NOT RUSH INTO THIS.
Firstly, make sure you are clear on your salon and what you offer, together with who you are looking for. It has to be a win/win for both parties. Like any relationship, it has to be give and take, and healthy and happy for everyone.
- Do you know what days/hours you need someone for?
- Do you know what the correct rate of pay is?
- Do you offer free parking or is there public transport near your salon/business so your new team member can work out if this is a good fit?
- Have you thought about induction?
- Have you thought about training?
- Could you be open to a trainee or someone with less experience, but with a great attitude and willing to learn?
- Do you know what the best and most efficient way of communicating with your potential new employee is?
- What questions do I need to ask at the time of interview?
- If I like them, when should I tell then to start?
- Do I need to do reference checks?
- They don’t return my calls or turn up for interviews – what should I do?
Don’t worry, we have heard it all, and helped thousands of salon owners across Australia and New Zealand.
