NOW YOUR CAMPAIGN IS LIVE – HOW EXCITING!
Congratulations on choosing National Salon & Spa Recruitment to assist you in finding the right team member/s for you and your business.
SOME STRAIGHT UP TIPS!
When suitable candidates apply, it’ a great idea to call and text them straight away. Give yourself some time and space to focus on who could possibly be your new star employee. Time is of the essence, so please call or text them – emails can get lost in spam and junk folders. Otherwise another salon/business owner could contact them, and you could potentially lose them.
When calling, your potential new team member can often be interviewing you at the same time – so make sure you are professional, happy and welcoming on the call. It is really important to be focussed just on the call and not be trying to rush and doing several things at once. Maybe start with a few lead in questions:
- Ask them a little about themselves, why they are interested in your role, what they are doing now, and how far do they live from the salon.
- Check to see if they are driving or taking public transport – think about how long they will take to get to work.
- Of course, ask them why they are looking for a different role and wanting to leave where they are now. If they “bad mouth” their current employer, this could be a red flag, and you want to make sure that what they are saying is valid reasons for wanting to leave. Of course not all employers, or team members. are great to work with, so we have to understand this as well.
MESSAGE TEMPLATE
If texting first as they do not answer your call (or do a voice message):
“Hi…., you applied for the role of… with us. We would really love to meet with you. Can you please give me a quick call when you are available so we can have a quick chat and meet with you ASAP.”
Then, all sounding great – BOOK THEM IN ASAP. Make sure you let them know where to park or how close the bus or tram or train station is.
We would recommend asking them to come professionally attired, and to arrive 15 minutes earlier, to ensure no traffic delays etc. On the evening before, or in the morning of the interview, please send a lovely text and reminding them of their interview.
“Hi…, we are very excited to meet with you tomorrow at 3 pm. Please don’t feel nervous. We are a lovely group, and feel a little nervous meeting you also of course. This will be a very informal meeting, where we will ask you some questions, and then we would love you to ask us some questions also. We could be potentially working together, so it is important that we can establish if we are a great fit. We have tea and coffee, still and sparkling water for you upon your arrival. Can you please confirm ‘YES’ that you will be attending or if you need to reschedule, could you please be kind enough to let us know ASAP so we can cater for our wonderful clients.”
INTERVIEW
Please make sure that you make the candidate feel as comfortable as possible, so they want to open up to you and be honest and feel relaxed. Sitting with a clip board and bombarding them with questions does not work, and makes the candidate feel insecure. Also, make sure the interview is one on one, and not 2 or 3 people
interviewing them at once. This can be very overwhelming for your new potential candidate.
- We want to make sure that they like us and trust us, otherwise, they will not want to work with us, and the market is very competitive, so let’s be wise when interviewing.
- Ask them a little bit about themselves, their current role, and why they want to leave (this is great in person as you can see their expressions as well).
- Also, some great questions – Do you have any outside interest/hobbies that will inhibit your role if you are successful? Do you have any holidays booked over the next 12 months? Have you looked at our socials and website to see how you would fit in?
Some questions we cannot ask:
- Are you married?
- Do you have children or are you wanting children in the future?
- What is your age?
THE INTERVIEW IS GREAT, AND YOU REALLY LIKE THIS PERSON
The next step is essential to the recruitment process.
“Well, we really loved meeting with you today, and very interested in moving forward. Part of our process is to call 2 of your Referees, who of course will tell us how wonderful you are. Can you please give us the names and landlines for 2 of your Referees (mobiles could be friends and fictional). Also, let’s book you in for a trial this
week – we have models of course.” – (This needs to be ASAP!)
Or if you want to step this process, do the Reference Checks that day and then offer them the role.
It can be a probationary period or casual role firstly, so you can establish if this works well for both of you.
Please remember that we are here beside you, and to hold your hand during the whole recruitment process.
For our Gold and Silver Package, we do all of the pre-screening and behind the scenes work, so you can just concentrate on your business, and do final interviews.
